Paradigm shift? What’s that?
Paradigm shift? What’s that?
Paradigm shift is a shift in one’s perspective, this can be regarding many things from things like food to even education however today we will be talking about parenting your child. Parents usually project their teachings the way they were taught back in their childhood days. As we progress in life many things including ourselves evolve, it is important that parents should change the way they teach.
Many kids are running into problems that cannot be dealt with in the same mannerism as their parents would have done during their early years and if parents are not willing to understand, this could lead their child to be very quiet and keep all his/her feelings and emotions bottled up rather than expressing the problem. This can lead to far worse things such as depression, anxiety and stress potentially affecting their school and social life. But don’t feel discouraged if you are guilty of this
Many parents are guilty of this but it is better to change late than never. Here are some ways you may change your teaching style.
Let’s start off with the ‘don’ts’; One of the things you should never do is intimidate. Intimidating your child is very unhealthy for both the parent and the child as this promotes the behavior the parents are projecting and it may even cause them to be intimidating to their peers. There is a difference between scolding and intimidating; When you are scolding your children, parents should avoid raising your voice and saying derogatory statements regarding your child’s misbehavior.
Whenever your child makes a mistake, teach them in such a way that they understand fully. Yelling at them fiercely will only teach them to raise their voice rather than learning something useful.
You should always be supportive when it comes to your children, being supportive gives your child a strong impression that you as parents are someone your child can always lean on and confide in.
